Day 1. Introduction to Karelia and the most beautiful waterfall
Today we will begin our acquaintance with the incredible Karelia.
The train from Moscow arrives at 6:30, we will meet you and take you to the hotel for breakfast, there will be time to recover after the journey.
A healthy breakfast of farm products awaits you: hearty cereals, homemade cheesecakes, pancakes, eggs and, of course, coffee!
After breakfast, we will walk around the territory of the park hotel, go out to the open Lake Ladoga, visit the museum "At the Master" - the Natural and Ethnographic Museum of Sergei and Galina Volovs.
The exposition of the museum "At the Master's" presents samples of minerals and rocks from the Northern Ladoga region and other regions of Karelia, ancient household items and crafts collected in the Sortavala region. Also presented are items made of birch bark by master Sergei Volov. For those who wish, a tour of the garden is possible.
At 12:00 check-in at the hotel and a couple of hours of free time to rest.
The highest waterfall in Karelia is the White Bridges (Yukankoski and Koyrinoya). The height of the first is 17 meters! Incredibly beautiful natural landmark , hidden from human eyes.
Koyrinoya is translated from Karelian as "dog ditch". This is the name of the river, on which there are two waterfalls and the village of the same name. Lower Koyrinoya is located outside the village. The river here enters a narrow rocky gutter, at the end of which it breaks off with a 4-meter waterfall.
At 14:00, a transport with guides is waiting for you, who will show you this unreal location.
But first we go for lunch at a local cozy restaurant of national cuisine.
We recommend trying lohikkeito - the most delicate Finnish fish soup with cream, dumplings from the freshest bear meat and elk carpaccio, since we are in Karelia!
Not far from the abandoned village of Kitelya is the Kitelsky almandine garnet deposit, which is considered the largest in Russia, where dark red almandine garnets with a violet tint have been mined for about 500 years . Although the mines are abandoned, overgrown with spruce, and flooded with water, but always, with a strong desire, you can find a beautiful raspberry almandine as a keepsake. Stones come across the size of a small walnut.
In the evening we return to the hotel, dinner at the cafe on site. If you wish, you can visit the bath complex.
*Not included in the price, pre-order on request
Day 2. Valaam and Ladoga Skerries
The Valaam archipelago is an extraordinary combination of architecture and nature. Majestic temples, granite rocks and picturesque bays of Lake Ladoga. One of the must-see places in Karelia, even if you have no religion.
We leave after breakfast. The guides will guide you on the spot. Let's see the main objects and temples, and then there will be time to walk around the territory and look around.
We will go there by boat, which gives an excellent opportunity to get to know Lake Ladoga better.
Ladoga Skerries - National Park of the Republic of Karelia on the northern and northwestern coast of Lake Ladoga, created to preserve the unique natural complexes of lake skerries.
Incredibly breathtaking when you rush on a boat along the water surface along the rocky islands!
On the way back we will make a landing on one of the islands.
We will have lunch with sandwiches and hot tea from Karelian berries and herbs.
*It is also possible to have a monastic lunch on the island of Valaam
In the evening the guide will conduct a sightseeing tour of the evening city of Sortavala .
Sortavala is a city where Finnish buildings and the spirit of that time have been preserved. Here, you will get to know the region better, immerse yourself in the history of these places.
After we return to the hotel. In the evening, bathhouse, rest on the territory, exchange impressions and drink hot mulled wine.
Day 3. Ruskeala Fairy Park
In the morning, free time at the hotel, and a leisurely breakfast. We leave at 11:30 from the hotel.
First of all, we will go to Mount Paaso, from where an incredible view of the surroundings of the city of Sortavala opens . How nice to start the day with an active walk!
Today, perhaps the most visited tourist site in Karelia is on the program.
Here marble was mined for St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg and for Moscow metro stations.
The mountain park is tens of kilometers of footpaths, an underground route, a mountain lake and developed infrastructure (cafes, shops, restaurants).
You will learn the history of the place, why it turned out to be abandoned, where the water in the canyon came from and much more. And also you will have an unforgettable journey into the underground world of the park, as it is also called, "".
And you will also visit a place that is much less often visited by tourists - the abandoned marble and lime factory Ruskeala of the times of Catherine II.
There are no equipped eco-paths, lighting and everything else. Only true story.
In addition, in the mountain park you can: ride a trolley over the lake of the Marble Canyon, dive under water accompanied by an experienced instructor, and float while watching Ruskeala from the water!
We will have lunch in a cafe on the route - "Point on the map".
A spacious cafe-bistro where you can have a delicious lunch, relax, and gain strength after the road or in between sightseeing. Guests can choose from dishes of European and Karelian cuisine.
Evening - we return to the city of Sortavala.
Dinner at the Berg's House cafe.
The lohikkeito menu includes Finnish fish soup with cream, dumplings from local trout and game, traditional wickets!
Here, a tasting of Karelian tinctures, Valaam cheeses and jams will be prepared for you. After that, we will visit a store where you can buy products from local manufacturers for yourself and as a gift for your loved ones.
At 20:20 we take the train back to Moscow.
Bon Voyage!

Nature!!! Very soulful people. Food. From my point of view (I do not impose it on anyone), it is worth going to Karelia just for the beauties of nature. And you need to live in nature, not in the city. In this sense, Tatyana Nikeshina very well chose the Vremena Goda hotel on the shores of Lake Ladoga for the group to stay during the trip. Every evening, after a day full of impressions and physical activity, we returned to this oasis of peace and quiet. It was even a pity to go to your room and waste time sleeping, I just wanted to sit all night on the lakeshore and admire the changing colors of the sunset and the movement of the Moon across the pale northern sky... It is special in Karelia. The tour program created by Tanya Nikeshina once again confirmed the thesis that it is impossible to embrace the immensity, especially within the framework of a short tour, rather like a forced march, but allowed to get acquainted with the brightest sights of the region "large strokes", kindled curiosity, interest and an irresistible desire to come to this marvelous land again, already knowing exactly where and what I want to see. Ladoga skerries are my brightest and strongest impression! The guide/narrator on the first day of the tour (I forgot his name, unfortunately) and the guide Olga in the Valaam Monastery were wonderful.
What to improve?
1. I would not include a tour of the city of Sortavala, especially at the end of the trip. He made a dull impression on us and blurred the overall impression. Tanya, thank you for the idea to take a boat ride on the lake before the train departs, it restored my aura and improved my mood)) 2. When visiting the Ruskeala park, do not make visiting the caves mandatory, let the tourists themselves decide on the spot how much they need it and set their own priorities. From my point of view, all the beauty of this park is above the ground, not underground. We need to give people the opportunity to ride boats on the water, bungee fly, etc. or just enjoy the contemplation of this beauty from different vantage points and take as many photos as the memory of our smartphones allows and blow up Facebook with Instagram)) 3. Book only trusted guides. 4. I would not saturate the first day of the program with activities in case of an early arrival of the group by train. Still, fatigue after a night on the train affects the perception, mood, and physical condition of a person.
